Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MSFFL3116 - Install resilient sheet to walls

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare to install resilient sheet

  1. Interpret resilient sheet installation requirements from job and manufacturer instructions and calculate the quantities of materials required
  2. Identify hazards relating to the work site, work practices, materials, tools and equipment, and check risk treatments are in place and operating
  3. Select and check all required tools and equipment are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
  4. Gather the resilient sheet, coatings, adhesives and other materials required by job instructions, and check they meet quality requirements and are prepared and ready to use or install according to the manufacturer instructions, product labels, safety data sheets and workplace procedures
  5. Confirm the wall substrate is clean and suitable for installing the resilient sheet, and fix or report any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
  6. Establish a mixing station in a safe, suitable location, and prepare the surface coating
  7. Trial the surface coating to check the equipment is operating correctly and the consistency of the coating material and the surface finish are according to the manufacturer instructions
  8. Apply surface coating to the required depth and coverage according to the manufacturer instructions and job requirements
  9. Check internal and external corners for square
  10. Check wall surfaces for plane, and smooth and clear them for further processing
